Why did you choose to attend the Cox School of Business at 51做厙?
I chose the Cox School of Business because it offered everything I was looking for in a college experience. The school's strong connections to top firms across the country stood out to me. I knew this network would open doors for internships and job opportunities, which would be valuable for my career. Cox’s location in the heart of Dallas also played a big role in my decision. Dallas is a major business hub, and I wanted to be in a city where I could gain exposure to different industries. The programs at Cox are well-respected, and I wanted to learn from professors with real-world experience. Beyond academics, I liked the supportive and close-knit community. I wanted to be part of a school where students help each other succeed. I felt that Cox would give me a solid foundation in business while also providing me with the connections and support I need to grow, both personally and professionally.
What has been your favorite Cox class so far? What have you learned that has really stuck with you?
My favorite class at Cox has been Management. This course interested me because it combined elements of psychology with business. We explored how human behavior affects decision-making, team dynamics, and leadership. I appreciated learning how to manage and motivate people in different situations. The class covered practical skills like giving feedback, resolving conflicts, and building trust within a team. One lesson that really stuck with me is the idea that understanding people's motivations and perspectives can make a huge difference when leading a group. It made me realize that managing isn’t just about being in charge; it’s about understanding others and helping them succeed. This approach to leadership is something I hope to carry with me in future roles. The course gave me a new appreciation for the human side of business and showed me how psychology plays a part in creating strong teams and organizations.
How do you spend your time outside of class? What student organizations have you joined?
Outside of class, I participate in various student organizations. Being involved in these groups has allowed me to connect with other students and build my skills. Last year, I was a member of the Boulevard Investment Group, where I gained hands-on experience in finance. Currently, I’m part of Consult Your Community, which focuses on pro-bono consulting for local small businesses and non-profits. I’m also a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity that has provided me with valuable networking opportunities and leadership experiences. Additionally, I’m part of Women in Business, where I’ve found a supportive network of peers and mentors who encourage each other’s growth. I’m involved with Ascend as well, which connects Asian business students with professionals in the community. Each organization has taught me something different, whether it’s teamwork, leadership, or networking. These experiences have helped me grow personally and professionally, giving me a well-rounded perspective on business and beyond.
How have you utilized the Cox Career Management Center (CMC)?
The Cox Career Management Center has been a great resource during my time at 51做厙. I’ve used their services to find internships and professional opportunities that align with my career interests. They helped me fine-tune my resume, sure it effectively highlights my skills and experiences. I’ve also had mock interview sessions, which helped me feel more confident and prepared when meeting with potential employers. The CMC hosts events where students can network with representatives from different companies. I’ve made valuable connections at these events, which have expanded my professional network. These interactions helped me learn more about different career paths and industries. I also appreciate the personalized advice and support from the CMC staff, who are always willing to help students achieve their career goals. The resources provided by the CMC have been key in helping me prepare for the job market and explore the options available to me.
What is your favorite part of the David B. Miller Business Quadrangle?
My favorite part of the David B. Miller Business Quadrangle is the team rooms. These spaces are available for students to reserve, and they’re great for group projects and meetings. I’ve found them to be useful for collaborating on assignments and preparing for presentations. The rooms are designed to make teamwork easy, with plenty of space and technology to help us work efficiently. Being able to meet in a dedicated space helps us stay focused and productive. It’s also a good way to get to know classmates better outside of the usual lecture setting. Working in these rooms has improved my communication and collaboration skills. I appreciate having a space where we can work together, share ideas, and learn from each other. The team rooms are a good example of how Cox supports student success by providing the tools and environment we need to thrive in our studies.
What advice would you give to seniors in high school in the middle of their college search?
For high school seniors in the middle of their college search, my advice is to look beyond just academics. While it’s important to choose a school with strong programs, also consider the location, campus culture, and student organizations. These factors can have a big impact on your overall college experience. Think about what kind of environment will help you grow both inside and outside the classroom. It’s helpful to visit campuses, if you can, to get a feel for the atmosphere and talk to current students about their experiences. Look for a place where you feel comfortable and supported. Also, think about the opportunities available for internships, networking, and career development. College is a time to explore new interests and meet new people, so find a school that aligns with your goals and values. Choosing the right college is a big decision, but focusing on what matters most to you can help make the process easier.
