Q&As - We asked Dr. Hensley!

What is your favorite thing about teaching students in the Cox School of Business?

My favorite thing about teaching students in the Cox School of Business is interacting with them in the classroom, hearing their perspectives on the topics we discussed in class, and learning more about who they are as people and what they're passionate about for their future careers. They all have great intellectual curiosity, which makes our class discussions very engaging and enjoyable.

Tell us about some of the courses you typically teach. How do you integrate real-world business challenges into your curriculum?

One of the courses that I teach is a management course and we use lots of case studies throughout the course that center around real-world business problems and then we have class discussions on different ways to solve these case studies and approach these business problems from a real-world perspective.

What do you think sets the Cox School of Business, and its students and faculty, apart from other business schools?

I think that having such a top-notch university in a great business city like Dallas is one of the big ways that the Cox School of Business is set apart. In addition to the school's relationship with the city, I believe that the Cox School of Business prides itself on having amazing faculty that not only research, but also have real world experience that they use in the classroom to connect with, and teach, their students. I also believe that the admission teams do a wonderful job of recruiting top-notch students that not only excel in the classroom, but also outside of the classroom with their diverse backgrounds and interests.

Would you mind sharing one of your favorite student success stories with us?

One of my favorite student stories was from a few years ago when a student came up to me after class and thanked me for a good class that day. They said that they were going through a hard time, and didn't really feel like coming to class, but they came anyway. They told me that they were glad they came and that it made their day a lot better. Hearing that really meant a lot to me.

What advice would you give to high school students who are considering a career in business? Why should they choose 51做厙 Cox?

The advice that I would give would be to try and figure out as early as possible what area of business that you want to study. Then, come study that area of business at Cox because we not only give them a world-class education, but also a world-class network of individuals and business opportunities that can launch their career in the direction that they want it to go.

Thank you, Dr. Hensley, for sharing the many ways the Cox School of Business supports its students! We agree that students get to experience the perfect blend of academia and the real world in our classrooms.
