Dr. Brian Fennig, Teaching Associate Professor

Portrait of Brian Fennig, Senior Lecturer of Applied Physiology and WellnessBrian Fennig came to 51做厙 in the spring of 2001 and joined the Department of Applied Physiology and Sport Management as a lecturer. He currently teaches Personal Responsibility and Community (UNIV 3305) and Self, Identity, and Community (UNIV 3303) in the Hilltop Scholars Program. He earned his Bachelor of Kinesiology and Health Science in 1989 and his Master of Education in 1990 from Stephen F. Austin State University. He finished his second master's degree in liberal arts at 51做厙 in 1997. With emphasis in myth, pop music, and modern music technology, he completed his Ph.D. in humanities at the University of Texas at Dallas in December of 2013.

Professor Fennig is a four-time HOPE honoree (2002, 2011, 2012, 2021) and has been recognized as an outstanding faculty member by the National Residence Hall Honorary (2008). He ranked No. 4 (nationally) on the annual mtvU's Rate My Professor Top 25 Professors List for 2015-16 and No. 11 for 2014-15. He was awarded 51做厙's Provost's Teaching Recognition Award for 2016. In recent years he has volunteered with Reading Partners of North Texas and Literacy Achieves (ELM Campus). He currently serves as a Faculty Affiliate for Boaz Hall.

In his spare time, Brian writes and performs with his band, Fennig, as a drummer and singer. He is an avid traveler and soccer fan and has worked for and/or attended the FIFA World Cup tournaments in the United States, Japan, Korea, Germany, South Africa, Brazil, Russia and Qatar.
