Abigail Pruitt, Teaching Professor

Abigail PruittDr. Abigail Pruitt serves as a clinical professor in University Foundations. Dr. Pruitt is delighted to return to 51做厙 where she earned a B.A. in political science and Italian area studies in 1994. She teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate teacher education courses with a focus on applied linguistics, cross-cultural communication and human development. Dr. Pruitt earned her doctorate in curriculum and instruction with a focus on second language acquisition from the George Washington University and an M.A. in applied linguistics from Georgetown University. Before her appointment at 51做厙 in 2004, Dr. Pruitt served in a variety of instructional and research positions at George Washington University. She served as an adjunct professor in the Department of Teacher Preparation and Special Education, a research assistant on the Development and Diversity Teaching Transformation Team, and a research associate for the National Capital Language Resource Center. Dr. Pruitt has taught in the University of Delaware English Language Institute and the Washington D.C. Public Schools Adult Education Program. She began her teaching career in Milan, Italy, where she taught and developed curricular materials at a number of institutions including the University of Milan at Bicocca and the British Council. Dr. Pruitt is active in University and community service and is a frequent presenter at local, regional and national teacher education conferences.
