1.  Definitions

Definitions of capitalized terms are set forth in Appendix A.

2.  Policy Statement

The University does not allow its name or logo to be used to promote events off campus that are not sponsored by the University.  Characteristics of events not allowed may include the following: 1) the event is not sponsored by a student, faculty or staff Group/Organization, a School or Unit, or the University’s Administration; 2) the event lacks a financial sponsor or would require unapproved University financial expenditures or other forms of support; or 3) the event involves or impacts Major Donors or Leading Volunteers without prior University approval. At the direction of the President, the Vice President for Development and External Affairs (“the Vice President”) and the Division of Development and External Affairs (“DEA”) will have authority to establish guidelines for exceptions to this Policy and the process through which such exceptions can be requested.

3.  Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to protect the public image of the University and to deter unintended alliances with individuals or organizations not affiliated with the University.

4.  Applicability

All faculty, students, staff, volunteers, and contractors are expected to comply with this policy.

5.  Questions

Questions regarding this policy are to be directed to the Office of the Vice President.

6.  Department Administrative Rules, Procedures, and Guidelines

Development and External Affairs will create and maintain guidelines and procedures related to this policy.

Appendix A: Definitions

“Administration” refers to the University’s officers, including Vice Presidents, and the Director of Athletics, or employees acting at their direction.
