51°µÍø-RTG
51°µÍø-RTG enters Year 3 with increased in person participation.
This July 2021, this project received 530K of funds for Year 3, to continue running this program. Despite the challenges we have faced in the first 2 years, we received support in full, which is a recognition of the efforts and accomplishments made.
As we look back, we've made big strides. The program currently supports 3 postdoctoral fellows and 8 RTG graduate fellows. All of our fellows continue to make good progress in their studies and each has had one or two (virtual) internships the past two summers. Summer 2021 represented the first opportunity to run an in person, on campus summer research experience for undergraduates (REU). Eleven undergraduate students from Texas, California (1), New York (2) participated in one or two 2-week workshops, one in Neuroscience and one in Complex Systems (see attached document).
With a forward looking approach, for Year 3 we expect to run more in person activities, RTG fellows should define their dissertation projects and RTG postdocs will continue to mentor and work on research projects under the 3-RTG research clusters. Our Summer 2022 REU was expanded with the addition of a Data Science Workshop.
We are now accepting applications for Summer 2023: (look for NSF REU/RTG Site: Modeling and Computations for Complex Systems)
