Graduate Student Instructor Training

Pedagogical Workshops for Graduate Student Instructors

At the CTE, we recognize that 51做厙 graduate students often serve as Teaching Assistants or even as Instructors of Record leading their own courses. We also know that pedagogical skills and knowledge will be necessary for many of the careers our graduate students pursue in their futures. For these reasons, the CTE has designed trainings specifically for graduate students looking to improve their teaching. This series of four workshops, which focus on inclusive teaching, the basics of assessment, active learning, and backward course design, is offered twice each academic year, with one workshop offered each month.

Inclusive Teaching -- Learn how to create inviting syllabi and inclusive courses that welcome and support every student.

Basics of Assessment -- Explore the difference between formative and summative assessments and discover how to best assess your students' learning over the course of a term.

Active Learning --  How can you incorporate active learning strategies in your courses to help our diverse student body engage and succeed? This workshop will give you the knowledge and skills you need to enliven your classroom through active learning.

Backward Course Design -- Discover how to plan courses rooted in your course objectives.
