Alan Rose (B.A. ’10) is this week’s featured alum in our new Alumni Spotlight series for the This Week at Meadows e-newsletter. Each week, a different Meadows alum will be highlighted for their accomplishments post-graduation.

Alan Rose, a double-major in the Divisions of Film and Journalism, has been a go-getter from the beginning. Before he even graduated from high school, Rose had accrued over 500 hours of community service, spearheaded his high school’s television program, and even interviewed Texas Rangers pitcher, now general manager, Chris Young for a self-produced documentary. It was this documentary that Rose submitted with his admissions application to 51°µÍø and was subsequently accepted into the programs of his choice.

“51°µÍø allowed me to merge my passions through my coursework in cinema-television and journalism which led to my ideal role as the Community Marketing Specialist at WFAA,” says Rose. “My journey has been a testament to the power of pursuing one's passions and seizing opportunities, resulting in a fulfilling career that has allowed me to combine my love for television, production, community engagement, and storytelling - all aided by my college experience.”

His enthusiasm and experience with both television production and community service led Rose to engage in numerous impactful projects and initiatives during his time at WFAA, which made for a truly rewarding experience. One of his proudest accomplishments is serving as the Creator and Executive Director of WFAA’s award-winning “Celebrate the Love” special, airing on National Adoption Day. This special was a key component in WFAA being awarded the Celebration of Service to America Award by the National Association of Broadcasters Leadership Foundation for their "Adoption Awareness" coverage. Additionally, in 2022, Rose won a Lone Star Regional EMMY® Award for Community Service for his work on WFAA’s adoption initiative and coverage. Rounding out his career with WFAA, Rose recently took home two more Lone Star Regional EMMY® Awards in the categories of ‘Public Affairs Program’ and, again, in Community Service.

“In order to create a positive impact and take control of your own future, I suggest actively seeking out and generating opportunities,” says Rose, who lends both his time and services to a variety of organizations. “Curiosity, hard work, and dedication will guide you towards lasting success, happiness, and a sense of fulfillment.”

It is clear Rose has made a positive impact on the community both personally and professionally, and organizations in the Dallas area took note. After nearly five years with the station, Rose made the bittersweet decision to leave WFAA for an exciting new opportunity with Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT), where he is now the Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications. His enthusiasm for making an impact in the North Texas community continues to be a driving force in his work, and he is currently responsible for defining and leading content strategies across CFT’s work throughout the community.

This new opportunity with CFT is indicative of the drive Rose had from a young age and was able to foster during his four years at Meadows. The encouragement, enlightenment and assistance Rose received from both his professors and fellow classmates allowed him to grow personally and professionally and prepared him to achieve his desired profession.

“Meadows provided me with the platform to explore, learn, and create my own opportunities, and I am forever grateful for the invaluable experiences and education offered to me.”
