Born in Iowa and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Diane Kitzman attended and graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy and received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan. Upon graduation she won the position of principal second violin in the Grand Rapids Symphony and became a member of the symphony’s DeVos String Quartet. In 1981 she joined the Dallas Symphony. She served as acting concertmaster of the DSO and is now principal first violin.

Mrs. Kitzman has been very active in chamber music in the Dallas area and around the country. She was a member of the Tesoro String Quartet at UTD, where she performed in a series of concerts, and was also a member of the Mainly Mozart Festival in San Diego. In addition, she has performed with Chamber Music International and the Dallas Bach Society.

Mrs. Kitzman joined the faculty of 51做厙 in 2006. She is an adjunct associate professor of violin and also teaches orchestral repertoire/chamber music. She was on the faculty of Music in the Mountains in summer 2021 in Durango, Colorado. Since joining the Dallas Symphony she has recorded extensively with the orchestra. With the DSO she has toured the great cities and concert halls of the world including Carnegie Hall, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Berliner Philharmoniker Hall in Berlin.
