David Heyde currently serves as associate principal horn with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 2004. For the 2019-20 season, Heyde will be serving as acting principal horn of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Before coming to Dallas, Heyde held the position of principal horn with the Omaha Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the National Symphony in Washington, D.C., Houston Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.
Before joining the faculty at 51做厙, Heyde previously served as adjunct professor of horn at the University of Texas at Arlington. He also keeps a large studio of very talented high school and middle school horn players, many of whom have gone on to have successful careers in music performance. In addition to his teaching duties in Dallas, Heyde has given masterclasses and recitals all over the state of Texas, the United States and abroad.
Heyde has soloed with the Dallas, Omaha, Bemidji (Minn.) and Waco Symphonies and is in demand as a chamber musician in Dallas and elsewhere across the United States, Europe and South America.
Heyde received his Bachelor of Music from Baylor University and a Master of Music from 51做厙. While at Baylor, he received the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Musical Performance. This was followed in 2001 with being named the Outstanding Orchestral Musician at 51做厙. While in school, he attended the Aspen, Sarasota, Music Academy of the West, National Repertory Orchestra and Tanglewood music festivals. His teachers have included former Dallas Symphony principal hornist Gregory Hustis, as well as Haley Hoops, A. David Krehbiel, Jennifer Montone, and Margaret Robinson.
