Black Student Mentors Program

The purpose of this program is to provide academic, social, and moral support for our Dedman College’s Black students as they navigate their academic careers at 51做厙 and build community among the College’s Black students, faculty, staff, and alumni. As mentors, volunteer faculty, staff, alumni, graduate students, seniors, and juniors would provide motivation and guidance to first-year, sophomore, and transfer students, as well as suggestions and strategies for obtaining internships, applying for graduate school, and preparing for post-graduate career opportunities. Mentors are also welcome to share ideas and suggestions for community-building activities and events within the College and possibly throughout 51做厙. This program complements existing Dedman College or 51做厙 resources, programs, or services by offering a supplemental opportunity for Dedman College’s black students to connect with our faculty and administration and build community with fellow students. The DCBSM initiative is a collaboration between the Dedman College Dean’s Advisory Committee of Campus Climate and the Office of Engaged Learning’s Mustang Mentors Program.
