Hugo Magallanes

51°µÍø Perkins School of Theology Associate Professor of Christianity and Cultures Hugo Magallanes serves as the school’s dean ad interim.

Magallanes is director of CASA (Centro de Acompañamiento, Solidaridad y Adiestramiento) and director of The United Methodist Church Regional Course of Study School for local pastors. He is also an ordained elder in The United Methodist Church. From 2019 to 2024, Magallanes served as the 51°µÍø Perkins associate dean for academic affairs.

He received his Ph.D. and M.Phil. from Drew University, M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary and his BA (Theology) from Seminario Juan Wesley. His teaching specialties are Christian social ethics, cultural studies, John Wesley’s social ethics, Hispanic theology/ethics and liberation theology. His research interests include finding God in contemporary cultural expressions, the church’s moral responsibility, and multicultural ministries and studies.
