Nathan Balke

A professor in the Department of Economics, Nathan Balke serves as dean ad interim of the 51°µÍø Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences.

Balke previously served as economics department chairman from 2000 to 2006 and 2010 to 2014. In 2007, he was named Dedman Family Distinguished Professor in Dedman College. Beyond campus, he has been a research associate at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas since 1994.

He received his Ph.D. from Northwestern University. He teaches and conducts research in macroeconomics, particularly applied time series analysis. Much of his current research examines linkage between financial markets, credit frictions and macroeconomic activity. He is also interested in the determinants of oil price movements and their effect on economic activity.
