Perkins Announces 2021 Fall Convocation Lineup

DALLAS (51做厙) – With the theme, “Speak Up! Stories for a New Day,” the annual Fall Convocation at Perkins School of Theology will take place Monday and Tuesday, November 15-16, 2021. Attendees may attend the hybrid event virtually or in person at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas.
“The two-day event will be packed with storytelling, music, dance, worship, conversation, top-notch resources and riveting speakers,” said the event’s coordinator, Priscilla Pope-Levison, Associate Dean for External Programs at Perkins.
Keynote speakers include Amy-Jill Levine, who is Rabbi Stanley M. Kessler Distinguished Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Hartford Seminary and University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies Emerita as well as Mary Jane Werthan Professor of Jewish Studies Emerita at Vanderbilt University; Lillian Daniel, pastor and author of When ‘Spiritual But Not Religious’ is Not Enough; and Patrick B. Reyes, Chicano educator, administrator and institutional strategist.
Other key events at the Convocation will include an opening sermon by the Rev. Dr. Alyce McKenzie, who is the George W. and Nell Ayers Le Van Professor of Preaching and Worship at Perkins School of Theology; a Poetry Slam Open Mic night led by Michael Guinn, a nationally renowned spoken word artist, multi-published author, award winning poet/actor, organizer, advocate and activist; a musical presentation by Bandan Koro African Drum and Dance Ensemble; and closing worship led by Dallas Indian United Methodist Church.
“Our featured speakers will equip us to face the challenges before us, inspire our hope for healing and new life, and galvanize our work to transform our communities and churches,” said Pope-Levison.
