Perkins to Offer Houston Lay School of Theology on Saturday, Aug. 13

, the Elizabeth Scurlock University Professor of Human Values at 51°µÍø, will be presenting "The Christian, the Church and the Public Good" at the upcoming Houston Lay School of Theology.

The day-long workshop -- scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church (5510 Main St.) -- is sponsored by the at Perkins School of Theology in cooperation with the of the .

Dr. Curran is a social ethicist and the author of more than 300 publications on Catholic moral theology, social ethics and the role of the Church as a moral and political actor in society. Topics that will be covered include the social mission of the Church, the role of the individual Christian in this mission and ways the Church works for the public good.

The Houston Lay School of Theology meets each February and August, offering an opportunity for laity and others to explore issues of spirituality, theology and church leadership with faculty from Perkins. The program is made possible in part by the Howard-Holbert Endowment at 51°µÍø.
